Completion Ceremony for the 15th University Students’ National Smile Team On March 3, the Visit Korea Committee held the completion ceremony of the 15th University Students’ National Smile Team at Ferrum Hall, Ferrum Tower in Eulji-ro, Jung-gu, Seoul. At the event, the 150 members of the 15th University Students’ National Smile Team participated in various programs, including reporting results of their activities, Smile Awards, K-Smile Campaign flash-mob, and awards ceremony for the most outstanding group and individual. We had a fulfilling time looking back and finishing their activities carried out for five months. The 15th team publicized the 2016–2018 Visit Korea Year and K-Smile Campaign and staged different activities to spread a culture of kindness among the Korean public for five months. Now they’ve completed every task as National Smile Team members, but they gave their word that as citizens they would continue their efforts of spreading the culture of kindness. The University Students’ National Smile Team filled up all seats. And a presentation was delivered to review the activities carried out for five months. Now is the Smile Awards! The students on the stage look a little bit nervous. Part II has begun with the K-Smile flash-mob. The students are enjoying themselves walking onto the stage. The representatives of the 25 groups received medals. It was so meaningful and rewarding to every member. It was followed by the main event that awarded the outstanding group and individual. Her beautiful, fascinating smile tells us why she could win the Smile Prize. These are the winners of the grand prize. On the stage, some of they were touched, even to tears. Lastly, a commemorative photo was taken. Thus, all activities of the 15th University Students’ National Smile have finished. I believe that they will continue spreading the culture of friendliness in their respective positions! ^^

Awards Ceremony for Outstanding Members of the 15th Global Promotional Delegation for Korean Culture and Tours On February 27, the Visit Korea Committee held the awards ceremony for outstanding delegates of the 15th Global Promotional Delegation for Korean Culture and Tours at VANK Seowon in Bomun-dong, Seoul. The outstanding delegates received certificates of merit, medals, and souvenirs in recognition of commendable services. They also had the opportunity to share their experiences. They also had the opportunity to share their experiences. <Presenter 1 / Delegate Oh Saemi> Delegate Oh Saemi, who played a part in making a Korea foreign tourists long to visit again, shares her experience of customizing the K-Smile Campaign for her international friends. <Presenter 2 / Delegate Lee Harim > It was a great delight to hear Delegate Lee Harim talk about how she participated in promoting the K-Smile Campaign and Korean culture by wearing hanbok (traditional Korean dress) and taekwondo uniform at various tourist attractions. Last but not least, the outstanding delegates of the 15th delegation posed for a group photo. Based on their experiences with the Global Promotional Delegation for Korean Culture and Tours, we hope that the delegates will continue to dream big, and contribute to spreading Korean culture and the K-Smile Campaign all over the world. 🙂

Visit Korea Committee Attends Korea Travel Expo 2017 The Visit Korea Committee attended the Korea Travel Expo 2017, which was held at Halls C and D1 of COEX from February 16 to 19. The Korea Travel Expo, an annual event launched in 2004, contributes to local economic development by providing travel information and attracting more tourists to travel across Korea. This year, the travel fair was attended by more than 100,000 visitors. The Tourist Service Center, run by the Visit Korea Committee, promoted the Pledge of Kindness, the Visit Korea Year, and the Korea Grand Sale to locals. The Korea Travel Expo kicked off with the opening ceremony. Many visitors joined in the long queue in front of the Tourist Service Center. Promotional materials on the Visit Korea Year, the Korea Grand Sale, and the K-Smile Campaign were distributed in front of the Tourist Service Center. The visitors participated by taking a Pledge of Kindness. Many foreign tourists who attended the event showed great interest in the projects and activities of the Visit Korea Committee. Tuho, a traditional game of throwing arrows into a pot, was very popular among those traveling with family. Many visitors left messages in the guestbook. The Korea Travel Expo was a valuable opportunity for the Visit Korea Community to promote its activities, including the 2016–2018 Visit Korea Year, to locals and tourists. The Visit Korea Committee will continue to attend various travel fairs at home and abroad to promote the PyeongChang 2018 Olympic Winter Games and the 2016–2018 Visit Korea Year.

Special Theme Weeks of the Korea Grand Sale at the Dongdaemun Event Center Today, we bring to you the latest news on the Korea Grand Sale, one of Asia’s largest festival of shopping, culture, and tours. Even at this very moment, the Dongdaemun Event Center is at the heart of festivities. Let’s take a look at the host of activities that went on at the Event Center according to its four weekly themes. A total of four exciting weekly themes were arranged for the Korea Grand Sale. The second performance was the Korean traditional play. Both locals and foreigners were drawn to a modern interpretation of Simcheongjeon, which is a representative tale of the Joseon Dynasty era. Thanks to the witty lines and impressive acting, everyone enjoyed themselves thoroughly despite the cold weather. [Must-Do Week: Korean Traditional Games] It’s the Must-Do Week of the Korea Grand Sale. The Event Center offers various events for tourists during this week. The most popular is the chance to try out Korea’s traditional games. Throughout history, Koreans have played different traditional games. The first program is tuho, or pitch-pot. The players throw arrows from a distance into a pot, and those with the most arrows in the pot win the game. This game used to be played by the yangban, which was the ruling class during the Joseon Dynasty. Today, it can be played by anyone, anywhere. The second program is jegichagi. The players kick a jegi in the air, and those who prevent it from falling to the ground for the longest time win the game. Jegichagi is one of the popular traditional games in Korea. Visit the Dongdaemun Event Center to participate in traditional games and enjoy the opportunity to win prizes before the Korea Grand Sale is over! The Korea Grand Sale!
