Promotion of the 2016–2018 Visit Korea Year at the Feria Internacional de Turismo (FITUR) 2017 The 2016–2018 Visit Korea Year gets promoted in Spain! *_* The Visit Korea Committee participated in an international tourism fair held in Feria de Madrid, Spain. This major event is participated by 165 countries with more than 230,000 attendees. Here are some highlights of the tourism fair, captured from January 18 to 22. The Korea booth can be easily noticed from afar! Among the many participating countries, Korea had set up an especially beautiful, memorable booth. It’s the emblem of the Visit Korea Year! We hope the booth will draw more visitors during the fair. 🙂 Here are leaflets for the 2016–2018 Visit Korea Year and the Korea Grand Sale. And there are other promotional materials too, including stickers featuring the emblem of the Visit Korea Year. From the very first day, the Korea booth attracted many visitors. The Visit Korea Year is popular in Spain too! The visitors to the Korea booth are taking a photo with Soohorang and Bandabi, the mascots of the PyeongChang 2018 Olympic Winter Games. The photo frame features the emblem of the 2016–2018 Visit Korea Year! 🙂 There was a briefing on the 2016–2018 Visit Korea Year Campaign. A staff member is introducing the Visit Korea Year in fluent Spanish. She deserves a round of applause! It was very impressive that during the briefing many visitors paid attention to the introduction of the Visit Korea Year. They showed great interest in the various benefits and events offered during the 2016–2018 Visit Korea Year, including the Korea Grand Sale and the Korea Tour Card. The Visit Korea Committee will continue to spread word of the 2016–2018 Visit Korea Year not only in Southeast Asia, but also in Europe. Do look forward to it!

The 26th Seoul Music Awards in commemoration of the 2016-2018 Visit Korea Year The 26th Seoul Music Awards was held in celebration of the 2016-2018 Visit Korea Year at Jamsil Indoor Stadium in Seoul on January 19. The awards ceremony drew the attention of K-pop fans in Asia and other parts of the world. Various events were organized by the Visit Korea Committee for international fans! Do you see the lucky winners of the online lottery queuing to collect their tickets? Many tourists had come from afar! The Visit Korea Committee promoted the Visit Korea Year by distributing tickets and pamphlets. 🙂 Have you visited the Tourist Service Center (TSC) that was recently unveiled on the opening day of the Korea Grand Sale? The staff is providing information for foreign tourists who had come to watch the awards ceremony. Ten minutes before the awards ceremony... The event hall is packed with excited fans and visitors. The awards ceremony consisted of Part 1 and Part 2. A promotional video of the K-smile Campaign was shown at the start of each session. It’s a delightful video that brings a smile to your face. 😀 May the international fans who attended the event remember Korea as a land of smiles, and a place to return to. What an amazing opportunity to watch performances by the most popular K-pop artists. Congratulations to all winners! In Part 2, the awards were presented by Han Kyung-ah, Secretary-General of the Visit Korea Committee, and celebrity chef Choi Hyun-seok. SHINee was named as the winner of the Popularity Award. They delivered their acceptance speech via a video. Their joy could be felt even though they weren’t able to attend in person. 🙂 The Hallyu Special Award went to the boy group Astro. Congratulations, Astro! The Seoul Music Awards began at 7 p.m. and lasted for almost four hours. The fans were energetic throughout and sang along regardless of nationality, gender and age. The cheers of support that came from the stands was a testament to the popularity of K-pop. Through the awards ceremony, the Visit Korea Committee was able to spread word on the 2016-2018 Visit Korea Year to both locals and tourists. We hope it was a memorable time for everyone.

Korea Grand Sale Press Conference The first week of January 2017 has already passed. Time really flies, doesn’t it? Are you keeping your New Year’s resolutions? The Visit Korea Committee is preparing many new projects for the year ahead. First, let’s take a look at the press conference for the <Korea Grand Sale> 😀 You must have heard of the Korea Grand Sale. It’s an annual shopping festival with discounts offered by various retailers, airline carriers and hotels. This year’s Korea Grand Sale for foreign tourists will be from Friday, January 20 to Tuesday, February 28 The press conference for the Korea Grand Sale 2017 was held in Seoulgaon, a restaurant at the Sejong Center for the Performing Arts. The Secretary-General of the Visit Korea Committee gave an opening speech in the presence of many reporters. This year’s Korea Grand Sale, which takes place a year ahead of the PyeongChang 2018 Olympic Winter Games, also features events and activities that promote winter sports. It will be held in conjunction with the 2017–2018 Visit Gangwon Year campaign staged in PyeongChang, Gangwon Province. The 2017–2018 Visit Gangwon Year was introduced by Domestic Marketing Manager Kim Kang-min and Overseas Marketing Manager Joo Eun-jeong from the Tourism Marketing Department under the Gangwon Provincial Office’s Culture, Tourism and Sports Bureau. Together with the Visit Korea Committee, Gangwon plans to draw more foreign tourists and promote the PyeongChang Olympics through events such as the Olympics Festival, Gyeongpo International Fireworks Festival, and K-Drama in PyeongChang. Goblin: The Lonely and Great God, a popular Korean drama by tvN, is also being shot in Gangwon. The press conference for the Korean Grand Sale began following a brief introduction of the Visit Gangwon Year. First launched in 2011, the Korea Grand Sale laid the foundation for shopping and tourism in Korea until 2016. Last year, the shopping campaign was expanded into a culture and tour festival. The Visit Korea Committee aims to develop it into a global high-end shopping festival by 2019. Many reporters were typing away fervently during the press conference. How exciting that the press conference will soon be featured in newspapers! The press conference concluded with a Q&A session. The questions covered general event-related issues and the newly launched Korea Tour Card. With the new card, foreign tourists will be able to use public transportation in Korea more conveniently without having to purchase one-day passes.
