2014 Welcome Week for Foreign Tourists The Visit Korea Committee organized the 2014 Welcome Week, which was held from September 25 to October 5 with the aim of promoting Korean hospitality, in collaboration with Seoul Metropolitan City, the Seoul Tourism Association, and the Tourist Special Zone Association. Seven ‘Welcome Week’ tourist information kiosks were set up (in the Itaewon, Myeong-dong, Namdaemun, Bukchang-dong, Dongdaemun Fashion Town, Jongno–Cheonggyecheon, Da-dong–Mugyo-dong areas) to provide visitors with general and tourist information on Korea and opportunities to send postcards and make Korean calligraphy fans among other interesting activities and programs. Meanwhile, visitors who agreed to participate in a survey on tourist satisfaction were given Cash B Cards offered under a partnership between the Visit Korea Committee and EB Card. Cash B Cards can be used to pay for public transport around the country and diverse goods at major retail stores. The Visit Korea Committee’s very own interpreting volunteer group, Friendly Ambassadors, took part in the special event to smooth out any communication problems.

Mobile Tourist Service Center Opens in Time for the 17th Incheon Asian Games The Visit Korea Committee ran the Mobile Tourist Service Center for the duration of the 17th Incheon Asian Games, beginning with the Eve Festival 2014 Incheon K-Pop Concert on September 19 and ending with the closing ceremony on October 4. The mobile kiosk was set up at the Incheon Asiad Main Stadium for the opening and closing events on September 19 and October 4, respectively. The Mobile Tourist Service Center was also available at the Incheon Songdo International Convention Center from September 29 to October 3, offering tourist information and recommending Must-See Routes as well as providing interpretation services, internet connection, and a wide selection of souvenirs. The Visit Korea Committee’s very own interpretation volunteer group, ‘Friendly Ambassadors,’ participated in the program by helping non-Korean speakers to overcome the language barrier and ensuring that the international event went smoothly.

K-POP Festival in Incheon 2014 The much-anticipated highlight of the K-POP Festival in Incheon 2014 took place at Songdo International Business District in Incheon Metropolitan City on September 17. Auditions began in July with online applications and continued for two months. Over 400 dance crews participated in the auditions, eight of which were selected to perform at the 17th Asian Games Incheon 2014 as part of the first segment of the Incheon K-Pop Concert 2014. Talented young dancers from eight Asian countries captivated the audience of over 16,000 people with their smooth moves and passion for K-POP music. <‘Invincible’ from Vietnam> <‘Urban Age Crew’ from India> <‘POISON’ from Indonesia> <‘AMUZ’ from Japan> <‘V-2-M’ from China> <‘WHILE NO NAME’ from Kazakhstan> <‘DEFVALEN’ from Thailand> <‘Se-Eon’ from the Philippines> The eight cover dance crews invited to the K-POP Festival in Incheon 2014 got to stay in Korea for six days and five nights from September 14-19, allowing them sufficient time to prepare for the Incheon K-Pop Concert and visit major tourist attractions in Seoul and Incheon. Young dancers from all over Asia went back home with rich cultural memories and the unforgettable experience of performing in the heartland of K-Pop.

Hospitality Campaign for Foreign Tourists During Golden Week and Labor Day The Visit Korea Committee hosted various hospitality campaigns for foreign tourists in commemoration of Japanese Golden Week and Chinese Labor Day. From May 1 to 3, the distribution of souvenirs and a welcome event took place in terminal gates C and D as well as the Airport Railroad Travel Center of Incheon International Airport. Also, a moving tourist service center stationed at the fountain in front of Shinsegae Department Store Main Store from April 30 to May 3 and at the square of DooTa in Dongdaemun from May 4 to 6. Various convenience services were provided and gift events were held at the station. Furthermore, a temporary tourist information center was installed in the Top 7 Special Tourist Zones of Seoul incorporation with Seoul from May 1 to 11. 23rd Seoul Music Awards Held in Celebration of Korea Grand Sale 2014 “The 23rd Seoul Music Awards in celebration of Korea Grand Sale” was held at the Jamsil Indoor Stadium on January 23. Featuring brilliant performances by the biggest K-POP stars of 2013, this year’s Seoul Music Awards drew considerable attention from countless viewers from overseas invited through Korea Grand Sale online∙and offline events as well as from Korea. This year’s grand prize went to EXO, the new idol group. And main prizes went to 12 other winners including BEAST, who served as honorary ambassador for the “2013 K-POP Cover Dance Festival.” In addition, SHINee was awarded the Hallyu Special Award for their contribution to the spread of the Hallyu culture.
